Jesus Christ is the ONLY way we can obtain the gift of eternal life. No one can offer a gift, except the person who purchased it. Jesus Christ purchased the gift of eternal life for each of us.
How did Jesus Christ purchase the gift of eternal life?
Eternal life is a free gift, but it was purchased at a very high price.
God demands that the penalty for our sins be paid in full. The penalty or wages we've earned for our sin is death. Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sin by taking our place. His death on the cross paid our sin debt.
Only Jesus Christ can bridge the distance between our life of sin and an eternal relationship with God. It has been said that Jesus Christ paid a debt He did not owe because we owed a debt we could not pay.
