TO BE THE BEST

Virtually everyone who's kicked a ball has dreamt of playing for their country, breaking the net with a scorching volley that clinches the World Cup Final......

Some get closer to that dream than others, but for 99.99999% of us, it's just fantasy!

But we still get hooked on 'The Beautiful Game'

" Soccer is My Religion"

To many, Soccer is more than just a game, it's an alternative religion.

The Stadiums - cathedrals to soccer.
The Singing - raucous, but more passionate than the church choir.
The Season Ticket - attending every week like a regular churchgoer.
The Screaming Fans - yelling for their team, louder than a hell-fire and brimstone preacher at the height of his sermon!

Belief in your Team, belief in a God
What's the difference?

The difference is that soccer is a great game, but it doesn't change the world. It doesn't stop your next door neighbor from battering his wife. It doesn't stop your kid brother shoplifting. It doesn't change us.

After the final whistle, we all go home, or switch off the TV. It doesn't put us in touch with God.

A Game of Two Halves
The Reason why football is so important, and why the ground some players walk on is worshipped, is because inside us all there is felling that 'there must be more to life than this', more than just everyday living.

The two halves of our lives are the physical and spiritual. Our spirits need satisfying as much as our bodies need food, but football can never really satisfy that spiritual hunger - nor money, career, fame or even the best human relationships.

We need God- without him there will always be 'something missing in life, because he created us to know him - personally.

God is for football - he wants us to enjoy our lives, including sport. Everything good in life comes from God. But we need Him far more than we need anything else. God made us for a friendship with him, and only Jesus Christ can restore that friendship.

Jesus said: "No one comes to the Father except through me".

We have a Father God, and he's the very best Father to get to know!

To be the best!

Many people say the best we can expect out of life is to be as happy as possible. The trouble with that is that life is not always a Cup winning celebration, there's always the fouls, own goals and defeats! To get the best out of life, even when it's like that, you need the best coach - the Creator of the whole game, who has promised to help you to BE the Best you can.

If you would like to 'never walk alone' in this life, but know that God is always with you, all it takes is a simple prayer - but a lifetime's commitment. Living as a Christian isn't easy - but the rewards are eternal!

If you say words like these to God, and genuinely mean them, you can begin to get to know him:

My Father in Heaven, I need you. I believe you sent Jesus to die for me. he took the punishment for all the wrong things I have thought, said and done. I am Sorry for all that. Please forgive me, and help me to start afresh, living life your way. Come into my life by your Holy Spirit and make me a new person. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Congratulations! You've transferred to the winning side! But now you need help of the rest of the team, so please email me:
